Press ReleaseRelease Date: April 24, 2012 Belgrade community is walking across America Community walking program encourages daily exercise through group walks
The goal of the Walk Across America walking program is for everyone to track their mileage and collectively walk the distance from Belgrade, Maine to San Diego, California (3,216 miles). Participants will be given a pedometer and an official tracking sheet to tally up their miles. “We hope this fun program will encourage our community members to establish a regular walking and exercise routine that will contribute to their overall health,” says practice manager Wendi Wainer. “Our providers stress the importance of daily exercise, so it is a privilege to be able to provide our friends and neighbors with a free way to get healthy.” So how can you get started?Keep track of your miles walked by using the tracking sheets available at the health center, or by tallying on your own. Once you bring a tracking sheet back to the health center, a footprint with your mileage will be placed on the wall at the health center and added to the U.S. map. Patients and community members can pick up the tracking sheet at the health center located at 4 Clement Way in Belgrade. Mileage can be tracked by miles walked, or using a pedometer and converting to mileage using 2,000 steps as approximately one mile. To sign up for the program and to receive a free pedometer visit MoveMore.org and click “Become a Mover.” By signing up, you will also receive weekly walking tips! Don’t want to walk alone? Group walks are open to everyone and will be held at the Belgrade Regional Health Center. Walks are led by staff members Monday – Thursday during the following time: Mondays, 8 a.m.; Tuesdays, 5 p.m.; Wednesdays, 8 a.m.; Thursdays, 5 p.m. We welcome everyone to get out, get healthy and help us Walk Across America!
